Champagne Pierre Péters
Rodolphe Péters
Few names in Champagne carry the quiet authority of Pierre Péters. From the chalk heart of the Côte des Blancs, the Péters family has spent over a century distilling the essence of grand cru Chardonnay — wines of purity, tension and extraordinary finesse that have become touchstones for what grower Champagne can be.
Direct du Domaine works hand in hand with Rodolphe Péters to bring our clients allocations that rarely leave the village — including library releases and formats reserved for the domaine’s closest friends.
The Domaine
The story begins in 1840, when Gaspard Péters came to Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and began cultivating vines. His grandson Camille bottled the estate’s first champagne in 1919, and Pierre Péters gave the house its name with the 1947 release. Under Rodolphe Péters, at the helm since 2008, the domaine farms 20 hectares across 63 parcels — 45 of them within the grand cru of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger itself.
Terroir
The Côte des Blancs is a long, eroded escarpment of Cretaceous chalk south of Épernay. In Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, east-facing slopes, free-draining chalk and shelter from western winds combine to yield Chardonnay at its most mineral, racy and precise.
In the Vines
Farming avoids pesticides and herbicides entirely, with yields managed through cover crops and regular ploughing.
In the Cellar
Grapes are pressed within six hours of picking. Each parcel ferments separately in small stainless-steel tanks and rests on its lees; malolactic softens the village’s searing acidity without diminishing its drive. Rodolphe is unapologetic about dosage: “Champagne needs sugar — it is a great support for the wine being in harmony.”
In the Library
Thirteen cuvées currently rest in the Library, from the Cuvée de Réserve “Extra Aging” to vintage Les Chétillons in bottle, magnum and jeroboam, Oenothèque releases and the Réserve Familiale.
